Concepts + colour

Coloured versions + versions I changed with overlays. I tried to do these all fairly quickly, with one layer + a detail layer + overlays.

I'm going to now colour pick from these to make some palettes, and sort them out depending on the mood they have as to what part of the story I might use them for

concept art / style

sketches - mostly studies of photos from pinterest - as a start of concept art inspiration for the settings, as well as figuring out the style (aka How To Draw Plants)

Rough thumbnails-

I did these on a3 paper, with columns for alternate versions / compositions on the bits I'm not sure about.

This has some alt versions still. And two of the quests and the final climax bit I haven't done yet.

I annotated them to show them to Kezia for plot advice, as well as Sam who has been helping me with the writing, though [edited] they didn't end up looking at them until later when I did the online version for second showing.

Kezia's advice on the ending was mostly thinking about the metaphor stuff and what the meaning behind it is; whether defeating the fey, or working something out with them makes more thematic sense

-don't have the other quests

-finale bit..

Reading Comics

I read Moonstruck, which I got out from the library, which is good!

REREADS
I also reread the entirety of Rock and Riot  ,Griefer Belt and Sharp Zero
1.01
[Read from Start] [Chapter List] [Patreon]Image result for sharp zero comic

all comics that I love - though are quite different tone/style/genre wise from what I'm going for, it's helpful to look at just the structure of the comics in general.

I was also looking specifically at how comics start - because I'm not sure about the beginning of mine being what it is? Most comics tend to start with some kind of prologue, relating to the main part of the story, though that's more for longer arcing comics........slice of life things tend to start more in a 'normal day' setting, like mine, so maybe that's fine? I think I will have a play around with possible little bits of narration or something more conceptual to start it off...

Week 3 - lecture and advising

Lecture:
Tim's lecture about interactivity was interesting, and relevant to what I'm doing in some ways, though most of what he was talking about was direct purpose and usability rather than storytelling. I want to talk to him sometime soon about hosting and possibilities for my nonlinear page

Advising  - Caroline.

I basically explained what I was doing. I had a lot more to show than anyone else, and everyone seemed to think I'm on track. The comments Caroline had were to think about the pacing of the overall story, and also to look at Arthur Rackam's work, which she thought was similar to what I'm doing in terms of the nature aesthetic.

TIMELINE

dossier version -
I'm on track as far as this goes - I have 80% of it thumbnailed, though they're definitely initial thumbs, not final ones.

week 4: have the entire thing thumbnailed, at least initial ones. Test it with users.
list all locations, and begin concept art for them
do an overall mood/tone colour map

week 5: more testing story with people, editing as I go (panel compositions, layouts, etc)
start to put them into web prototypes - testing some javascript things

onwards: basically same as my original timeline.

kochab artist studies

I did some studies of kochab comic, because I really like the roughness of the style, and pencil lines + digital colour is what I'm thinking of doing. (though I did do these lines digitialy too)
I didn't do them in quite as much detail, as it's evident the colouring/tone is the most important part in the compositions.

These progress gifs of her work are helpful too: (all from http://erysium.tumblr.com/)
